Pescatore Vineyard sits on 15 acres just minutes from downtown Newcastle, a quiet spot where you can taste wine while your dog relaxes beside you. The place feels genuinely laid-back—the kind of winery where dogs are welcome to hang out on the lawn without anyone making a fuss about it.

The vineyard grows about 2500 vines focused on Rhone-style varietals: Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah, and Petite Sirah. The decomposed granite soil and rolling foothills create conditions that actually work well for these grapes, and you can taste the difference. Most of the vines came from Duarte Nursery in Lodi, so they’re well-established and thriving.

What makes it pleasant for a dog visit is the outdoor setup. Auburn Ravine Creek runs nearby, so there’s water sound and greenery without feeling crowded. The balcony has a wrought iron railing decorated with grape clusters—small detail, but it’s the kind of thing that tells you someone thought about the space. You get decent views of the surrounding hills from up there, good for photos if you want to capture the day.

They handle small group tours and can accommodate special occasions, so if you’re planning something specific, that’s worth asking about when you call. The place has a genuinely warm feel to it—family-owned operations usually do, and this one manages to be unpretentious without trying too hard.

Since this is a smaller operation, policies can shift with the season or depending on what’s happening that day. Call ahead to confirm what works for your dog’s visit and to check if there are any events scheduled when you’re thinking of stopping by.
