Bangor Ranch Vineyard & Winery

5768 La Porte Road, Bangor, California 95914

(510) 658-2056

In the rolling foothills of the northern Sierra, Bangor Ranch sits on land with real history. The area was once a booming Gold Rush town with thousands of miners, and later, in the early 1900s, an orchard of Mission olives was planted on what’s now the vineyard property. When Gary Paul Fox acquired the ranch in 2010, he started transforming it into a working vineyard and winery with a focus on handcrafted wines and olive oil.

The location itself works in their favor. The warm climate, hillside positioning, and rocky, decomposed granite soils create conditions for producing wines with genuine character and complexity. If you’re driving through Butte County wine country, this isn’t one of the slick, polished operations—it’s a working ranch where you can actually see and taste what the terroir produces.

Visiting with your dog means you get to explore the vineyard setting while tasting what they’ve made. The rural Bangor setting means you’re away from the crowded wine corridor farther south, which usually means a more relaxed experience. The hillside views and open space make it a reasonable place to spend an afternoon if your dog does okay with vineyard visits. You’ll want to call ahead to confirm their current dog policy and tasting hours, as smaller operations sometimes adjust seasonally.

The property’s history—from Gold Rush settlement to olive orchard to modern vineyard—gives the place a sense of continuity rather than just being another wine destination. The fact that they’re focused on their own handcrafted production rather than pursuing some massive portfolio means they’re invested in what they’re actually making. If you’re exploring the quieter parts of northern California wine country with your dog, this is worth the detour off Highway 70.
