Located on a picturesque stretch of the Silverado Trail, Black Stallion Winery recalls the rustic charm of early California with century-old olive trees framing the property and natural grasses mixed with Mediterranean plants throughout the grounds. The estate vineyards surround the main building, planted with three clones of cabernet sauvignon and malbec that go into their signature red wines and flagship blend. What makes this a workable stop with a dog is the outdoor setup—you can spend time on the terrace near two trickling fountains while your dog stays on leash beside you, taking in the vineyard views and that distinctive Napa Valley quiet.

Inside the hospitality center, the large circular tasting bar is where most people sample wines, but that’s off-limits for dogs. The winery also has two private tasting rooms and a private lounge for club members. The real draw if you’re coming with your dog is staying outside where the property is genuinely pleasant to walk around—it doesn’t feel like you’re just hanging out in a parking lot while someone else tastes wine.

The Silverado Trail location is convenient if you’re doing a day of wine tasting in the northern valley. You’ll want to check their website for current hours and days they’re open, as winery schedules shift with the seasons. The main thing to keep in mind is that your dog needs to stay leashed on the grounds, and you’ll need to clean up after them. If you’re planning to do any serious tasting, this works best if one person stays outside with the dog while the other goes through the main tasting experience, or if everyone’s happy just sampling from the terrace.
