Brian Arden Winery sits along the Silverado Trail in Calistoga with views of the Palisade mountains—a small operation that produces less than 5,000 cases a year. The story behind it is worth knowing: back in 2008, Brian packed everything into a U-Haul and moved to Calistoga to work the cellar at Terra Valentine. There he learned from some of the Valley’s most respected winemakers, absorbing different philosophies, styles, and techniques that shaped his vision for what he wanted to create.

By 2010, Brian and Arden were ready to establish their own place. When a property on the Silverado Trail became available—sitting on 2.25 acres with room to build from scratch—they bought it. Four years of development followed before the winery building was ready for its first harvest in 2014. The hospitality center opened in May 2015, launching with a 2008 Cabernet Franc that showed the direction Brian had been working toward.

What you’ll find here is genuine wine education from people who actually care about it. This isn’t a high-volume operation trying to move cases through a tasting room. The team’s background in ultra-premium boutique winemaking means they approach their own work with real intentionality. The setting itself is pretty nice—you can see the Palisades while you’re tasting, and the building they created on those acres reflects what was clearly thoughtful planning rather than just another roadside stop.

If you’re driving the Silverado Trail with your dog, this is an easy place to visit. The location gives you both a reason to pull over and take in the landscape. You’ll get wine poured by people who understand the craft behind every bottle, and the views don’t hurt either.
