Calerrain Wines sits in the rolling countryside outside Gilroy, about an hour south of San Jose, and it’s one of the few wineries in the area that genuinely welcomes dogs without making a big deal about it. You can bring your dog along to taste their wines in the outdoor spaces, and they’re relaxed about it—no velvet rope treatment, just actual dogs hanging out while people sip.

The grounds are spacious enough that you won’t feel cramped, and there’s real room for your dog to move around while you’re working through their wine selection. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for an afternoon, bring a picnic or order food, and let your dog do their thing without worrying about disturbing other guests or running into strict policies about where dogs can and can’t go.

The Gilroy area itself is wine country, but it doesn’t have the same tourist infrastructure as Napa or Sonoma, which means it’s often less crowded. Calerrain sits in that sweet spot where you get a winery experience without the weekend traffic and crowds you’d deal with further north. The countryside around here is fairly open—vineyards and orchards—so it feels genuinely rural compared to the Bay Area sprawl.

Since you’re down in Gilroy anyway, you’re close to some good hiking nearby, and downtown Gilroy has some decent restaurants if you want to grab dinner after. But Calerrain itself is really the draw if you want to combine wine tasting with bringing your dog. Just check their website or call ahead to see what events or tastings they have scheduled, since those sometimes have specific requirements or times.
