In California’s Gold Country, just a short drive from Plymouth in Amador County, Driven Cellars sits on 41 acres in Shenandoah Valley where you can taste wine while your dog relaxes nearby on a leash. The winery was established in 1993 by Rudy Chinco, who built it into a family operation alongside his son Chris and daughter Cathy. Their focus has always been on crafting intense, full-bodied Zinfandels and other bold red wines that reflect the region’s character.

Walking the grounds at Driven Cellars, you’ll get a real sense of how seriously they take their vineyard work. The tasting room setup is straightforward—no pretension here, just a chance to try their wines in a setting that feels genuinely lived-in. They pour award-winning varietals and blends, and if you want to understand more about what goes into each bottle, they offer guided tours and tastings that walk you through the winemaking process. It’s the kind of place where you can ask questions and actually get thoughtful answers rather than rehearsed commentary.

Dogs on leashes are welcome throughout the property, which means your dog can come along while you spend an afternoon here. The surrounding vineyard landscape gives you plenty of space to move around, and there’s something appealing about being able to walk your dog between tastings rather than having to leave them behind in a car. Summer afternoons can get hot in Amador County, so if you’re visiting during warmer months, aim for earlier in the day when it’s more comfortable for everyone.

The winery’s location makes it easy to combine with visits to nearby Plymouth, so you could plan a half-day or full day exploring the area. Driven Cellars is a solid stop if you appreciate straightforward, well-made reds and want a tasting experience where your dog is genuinely welcomed rather than merely tolerated.
