Gold Hill Vineyard & Brewery

5660 Vineyard Ln., Placerville, California 95667

(530) 626-6522

Gold Hill Vineyard & Brewery sits in the rolling hills outside Placerville in El Dorado County, combining wine and craft beer under one roof. Since opening in 1985, the vineyard has earned gold medals for its Bordeaux-style reds alongside Chardonnays and Italian and Rhône varietals. The brewery side keeps things equally serious, turning out traditional beers like a Scotch Ale, Dry Irish Stout, and hoppy IPA that stand on their own rather than playing second fiddle to the wine program.

The real draw here for anyone with a dog is that they’re genuinely welcome throughout the property. You can taste wine or beer at your own pace while your dog hangs out nearby, soaking up the vineyard setting without any fuss. There’s actual outdoor space to walk around—enough to feel like you’re getting a real break from sitting in a tasting room, and the views across the vineyards are the kind that remind you why people move to this region. The atmosphere leans casual and relaxed rather than formal or pretentious, which means nobody’s worried if your dog shifts position or sniffs around while you’re mid-sip.

The staff sometimes has treats available for dogs, which is a nice touch but not something to count on—it’s just what we found during our visit. The property feels like it was designed for people to linger rather than rush through, so if you want to spend an afternoon here, that’s completely doable. You can move between the wine side and brewery side without any hassle, so if someone in your group prefers beer while another person’s into wine, everyone’s accommodated.

Come with realistic expectations about the experience. This isn’t a polished resort with manicured grounds, but rather a working vineyard and brewery where the focus is on what’s in the glass. The outdoor areas can get warm on hot days, so bring water for your dog and plan accordingly. Call ahead if you’re interested in a tour, since operations and policies can shift seasonally.
