Located on the east side of Paso Robles in the Pleasant Valley, where the sky opens up and the sun beats down on rolling vineyards, sits Graveyard Vineyards. The winery sits up on a small hilltop with views that stretch across the vines, and despite their small production volumes, they’ve built a serious reputation. Their wines have picked up awards and a devoted following that keeps people coming back.
Rob and Paula Campbell-Taylor run the place alongside winemaker Jason Bushong, and they’ve built something that feels genuinely welcoming. You’ll head down Estrella Road to reach them, and the drive itself gives you a sense of how isolated and peaceful this part of wine country can be. Once you arrive, the atmosphere is relaxed—the kind of place where conversations happen naturally and you don’t feel like you’re being sold to.
The wine itself is what brings people back. They focus on depth of flavor rather than volume, and that philosophy shows in every glass. It’s the kind of winery where you might stop by as a casual visitor and leave feeling like you’ve made real connections with the people pouring the wine. They actually seem interested in talking about what you’re tasting rather than just moving you through the process.
Dogs are welcome here, which makes the hilltop setting even better—you can bring your dog along while you’re sipping and taking in the vineyard views. The Pleasant Valley location means it’s quieter than some of the busier tasting rooms closer to downtown Paso Robles, so there’s room to breathe and relax.
Since hours and days of operation vary, check their website before heading out. The drive out to Estrella Road is worth planning for, especially if you’re looking for a winery experience that doesn’t feel like a production.
