Hahn Family Wines sits in the Santa Lucia Highlands near Soledad, on about 1,000 acres of vineyards that the Hahn family has been building since Nicolaus and Gaby founded the winery in 1980. Half their vineyards are right here in the appellation, where the elevation and marine influence create ideal conditions for growing grapes that reflect what wine folks call terroir—basically, the specific character that comes from this particular place.

The real draw for visiting with your dog is how much space there is to explore. You can walk the grounds with your pup on a leash, moving past the rolling hills and vines while you’re waiting for or between tastings. The outdoor areas feel genuinely open rather than cordoned off, and there’s something pleasant about having your dog along while you’re sampling wines instead of leaving them in a car or at home.

The winery hosts events throughout the year, and many of them allow dogs, so depending on when you visit, you might catch something beyond the standard tasting room experience. A casual afternoon here means actual time outside in a vineyard setting, not just a quick stop at a bar counter. The views across the Santa Lucia Highlands are the kind of backdrop that makes a slower pace feel natural.

Since the winery sits in a working agricultural area rather than a developed town, you’re not walking to other shops or restaurants between visits—you’re really coming here for the wine and the landscape. Bring water for your dog, especially if you’re visiting during warmer months, since there’s a lot of exposed vineyard. The staff can tell you what’s happening during your visit and whether any special events coming up are dog-friendly, so checking in when you arrive makes sense.
