Lazy Creek Vineyards

4741 Hwy. 128, Philo, California 95466

(707) 431-2222

Named for the meandering creek that runs through the 95-acre ranch, Lazy Creek Vineyards sits a few miles west of Philo in Anderson Valley, a pleasant detour off Highway 128. The approach itself sets the tone—you’ll drive down a narrow dirt road overgrown with rambling bushes and ferns, towering redwoods and oak trees framing the way until it opens onto a genuine working landscape.

What you find there isn’t a manicured tasting room setup. Instead, there’s the newer winery building and tasting room alongside a rustic barn, cottages with a real menagerie of animals wandering around, productive gardens, fruit trees, and the vineyards themselves. It’s the kind of place where you actually see how wine gets made rather than just tasting the finished product. Your dog will appreciate the space and the genuine farm atmosphere, though the animals do require watching—you’ll want to keep them close to avoid any surprise interactions with the resident creatures.

Lazy Creek is one of the oldest wineries in Anderson Valley and has stuck with sustainable growing practices throughout its history. They focus on small-scale production of Pinot Noir, which makes sense given the region’s reputation for that varietal. The wines are solid without the pretension you sometimes find in wine country, and the tasting room staff actually seem to enjoy talking about what they’re doing rather than rushing through the pour list.

The whole property has that lived-in quality that comes from a place genuinely built around farming and winemaking rather than wine tourism. It’s worth the drive down that winding approach, especially if you want to see what a smaller, serious vineyard operation actually looks like. Check their website for current hours before heading out, as they keep limited operating days.
