Majestic Oak Family Cellars in Redding is one of the few tasting rooms in the area that welcomes dogs without making a fuss about it. I visited on a warm afternoon with my dog and was able to sit outside with a glass of their Viognier while she relaxed nearby. The wine list skews toward approachable bottles rather than complex or heavy reds, though they do pour a solid Cabernet Sauvignon if that’s your preference.

What impressed me most was their dessert wine selection. They make three different styles, and none of them taste like they’ve been dipped in corn syrup. The wines have actual sweetness but maintain balance—something a lot of dessert wines miss. They’re the kind you could actually pair with food instead of just sipping as an afterthought.

The tasting room itself is casual. There’s indoor seating, but the outdoor space is where you’ll want to be on a nice day, especially if you’ve brought a dog. They don’t treat dogs like special cases or make them feel like they’re being tolerated; they’re just part of the experience. The staff was knowledgeable without being pretentious, which goes a long way when you’re trying to relax with a drink and your dog.

Redding gets hot in summer, so if you’re visiting during peak heat, plan for early morning or late afternoon. The location makes it easy to combine a tasting here with other stops around Redding. Bring water for your dog since it gets thirsty work waiting outside while you’re inside the tasting room, or if you’re sitting on the patio, at least you can keep an eye on things. Their dessert wines are worth ordering by the case if you find one you like.
