Provenance Vineyards sits in the heart of Rutherford’s wine country, housed in a distinctive red farmhouse surrounded by rolling vineyards. The setting feels genuinely peaceful—rows of grapevines stretch out in every direction, and the property has a working-winery feel rather than a polished resort atmosphere.
When you arrive with your dog, you’ll find a real welcome. The tasting room has an unusual feature: a floor made from 960 barrel staves sourced from the winery itself, which gives the space character and conversation-starter appeal. Beyond that interior space, there’s a newer patio lounge where you and your dog can settle in with a glass of wine. It’s where most people end up spending their time, especially on clear afternoons when you can actually see the vineyards while you’re tasting.
Provenance makes wines under both the Provenance and Hewitt Vineyard labels, and the staff clearly knows their stuff. They’re not the type to rush you through a tasting or push you toward the most expensive bottles. The atmosphere is genuinely welcoming for people visiting with dogs—this isn’t a “tolerate your dog” situation, it’s more of a “bring them along” vibe.
The patio is where the experience really happens. You can sit with your dog at your feet, taste through several wines, and actually take in the Napa Valley landscape without feeling like you’re on a tourist conveyor belt. Bring water for your dog and plan to stay longer than you think—people tend to linger here. The nearby Rutherford Grill and other restaurants are within a short drive if you want to grab food to pair with your tasting.
