Along the Sacramento River Delta, Scribner Bend Vineyards has been operating as a family business since 1893, when George Washington Scribner founded it. The property’s main tasting room doesn’t allow dogs inside, but the winery has set up an outdoor tasting area specifically for visitors with dogs, which is where you’ll actually spend your time if you bring yours along.
The outdoor setup works well during warmer months. You can order wines at the outdoor bar and settle into comfortable seating with your dog nearby. The vineyard sits on expansive grounds with views of the river, so there’s plenty of space to move around. Bring a blanket for your dog to lie on and a water bowl—it gets warm out there, and having water on hand makes a real difference during a long afternoon.
The atmosphere tends to be relaxed. You’ll often see other people with dogs, so if your dog enjoys socializing, there’s usually a chance for that. The grounds themselves invite walking around too. The river views and surrounding landscape give you something pleasant to look at while you’re out there.
One practical note: the outdoor tasting area is really the heart of the dog-friendly experience here. The indoor tasting room is off-limits for dogs, so don’t plan on moving around inside. This also means on days when the weather isn’t cooperating, it might not be the best visit. The winery’s event schedule varies throughout the year, and hours can change seasonally, so checking their website before heading out will save you a trip. They’re located in the Delta region outside Sacramento proper, so plan for a drive if you’re coming from the city.
