Tudal Winery sits on a quiet stretch of Highway 29 just north of St. Helena, and it’s one of the few Napa wineries that genuinely seems happy to have dogs around. They produce handcrafted wines in small batches—mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some Chardonnay—and do everything by appointment, which means you won’t be jostled around by crowds when you visit.

The setup works well for dogs. You can bring yours along on the tour and tasting, and they’ll hang out beside you while you’re sampling. The vineyard itself is pleasant to walk through, and there’s enough space that your dog won’t feel cramped or stressed. The staff treat dogs as genuine guests rather than something they’re reluctantly accommodating, which makes a real difference in how comfortable the experience feels.

What I appreciated most was that this isn’t a big, polished operation trying to seem exclusive. Tudal feels more like a serious family project—they’ve been making wine here since 1974, and they’re focused on quality over flashiness. The tasting room has an unpretentious atmosphere that carries over to how welcoming they are with dogs.

Since everything is by appointment, you’ll need to contact them ahead of time to arrange your visit. This actually works in your favor because it gives you a chance to let them know you’re bringing a dog and to confirm they have availability. The appointment system also keeps things intimate and manageable, so you’re not competing for attention with other visitors.

If you’re heading up Highway 29 through Napa, this is worth the detour. The wines are solid, the people are genuine, and your dog gets to experience the vineyard instead of waiting in a car.
