Amador County

Amador County is red dirt and thick trunks. Shenandoah Valley runs up the Plymouth–Fiddletown grade where zinfandel vines planted in the 1860s still carry the weight of pre-Prohibition plantings. Elevation sits between 1,300 and 1,800 feet — hot days, cool nights, wine that tastes like the hillside. Sutter Creek and Amador City lean country, sidewalks lined with water bowls, tasting rooms poured from front porches. The Consumnes River cuts canyons for a dog walk off the main road. Pack a leash and a hat. Amador is the Sierra foothills at their most honest, and a good dog is part of the ritual.
