San Francisco Bay Area

The Bay Area here is Sonoma County, Marin, and the city itself — wine country that starts twenty minutes north of the Golden Gate. Sonoma stretches from Carneros salt marsh up through Dry Creek and Russian River to the redwood edge of Sea Ranch. Every meso-climate California has is within ninety minutes: coast-fog pinot, inland-valley zinfandel, Petaluma Gap syrah, Alexander cabernet. Marin throws in small-production pinot on coastal shale, and SF proper hides a handful of urban wineries in the Dogpatch and Mission.
