Napa County

Napa County is the valley everyone knows and the hills most skip. The floor runs twenty-five miles from Carneros to Calistoga; the Mayacamas hold the western edge, the Vaca range the east. Cabernet country, first to last, with Carneros pinot and chardonnay in the cool south. Dogs are welcome on more patios than the guidebooks admit — Napa, Yountville, and St. Helena all keep leashed tasting rooms with water bowls at the door. Skyline Wilderness and Alston Park open leashed loops above the valley. Pair a Howell Mountain cabernet with an afternoon above the floor. Napa rewards the dog-patient driver.
