North Coast

The North Coast is fog, redwood, and river. From Carneros north through Dry Creek and Anderson Valley, marine air sits on the ridges until midmorning, then lifts to reveal vineyards turning gold by afternoon. Highway 128 cuts through the tightest section — eighty miles of tasting rooms under redwood canopy. Dogs travel the whole way. Healdsburg’s plaza has more water bowls than parking meters; Philo’s back patios face nothing but fern and fir. Pair a pinot with a fog walk at Gualala Point Regional Park. The North Coast is the state’s quietest wine country, and the most generous to a good dog.
